AK Divisional News

Coronavirus Update

As of April 8th 2020 the following Divisional Instructions have been updated to comply with Supreme Court AOSC20-23 and Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Administrative Order 12.510-04/2020.

Until May 29th, unless ordered otherwise, all hearings for this Division will be conducted via electronic appearances for all parties. For the past couple of weeks many of you have appeared via Court Call and CourtScribes. These hearings have gone well and I know there are other services available to have telephonic or audio/video appearances. Please know that the Court will make every effort to appear on your chosen, agreed upon, platform. This Court cannot direct that the litigants use one vendor over another. Please be patient as you wait for the Court to circulate through the various vendors for UMCs each morning.

Below are the numbers for two of the vendors Parties have routinely used;

Court Call: 888-882-6878
CourtScribes: 833-727-4237 ext 3

There are others, and attorneys are free to use any comparable services.

The Notice of Hearing must include all the instructions of how the parties participate in the selected communications platform.

Per Administrative Order AO 12.510 The Chief Judge has suspended all hearings on Fridays on the following dates: March 27th, 2020, April 3rd, 2020, April 10th, 2020 (Holiday), April 17th, 2020, April 24th, 2020 and May 1st, 2020 with the exception of first appearances and other emergencies.

In response to the on–going efforts to minimize the transmission of COVID-19, the Court will have no "in-person" hearings through May 29th, 2020. The Court will continue to work on matters via electronic submissions and electronic hearings. We are also opening time slots in the near future to reset matters previously canceled. During these difficult times we seek to act in accordance with the Administrative Order AOSC20-23 issued by the Supreme Court of Florida, and the most recent version of Administrative Order 12.510 issued by the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit minimizing person to person contact until we receive further direction from our local and global authorities on the best practices to insure that we are doing our part to reduce the spread of this virus. I assure you we do not take these steps lightly and that I will continue to assess the situation with an eye toward balancing the interests of justice against the potential for adding to the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of electronic hearings has gone extremely well the past few weeks, and the Court remains committed to handling hearings as needed. Please contact Judicial Assistant, Sabrina Valdez for any additional information on setting hearings and for any suggestions you may have to keep our cases moving forward so we can hit the ground running when the Courts resume normal operations. We appreciate your understanding during these stressful times and look forward to returning to normal operations as soon as safely possible.

Be safe and healthy!
